In July 2011, the City of Milwaukee Common Council voted to authorize planning work for The Milwaukee Streetcar to advance. In January 2012, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) responded to the Environmental Assessment and issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI).

Today, The Milwaukee Streetcar project development continues. Current activities include contracting with an Owner's Representative, continuing utility coordination efforts, establishing DBE goals, developing a Title VI plan, developing a Project Management Plan, evaluating potential vehicle options, and procuring final design services .
