September 2, 2016 – The streetcar project's contractor, Kiewit Infrastructure, which will issue 30+ project RPFs in the coming months, is hosting a subcontractor outreach and information event on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 2-3pm at the Dept. of Public Works field office, 3850 N. 35th St. The event is intended for any contractor interested in more information about streetcar construction opportunities, including, but not limited to those that specialize in electrical, roadway, telecom, signage, trucking, surveying, utilities, excavation, drainage, sidewalks, etc. DBE and small business enterprise firms are encouraged to attend. August 19, 2016 – The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works has selected Kiewit Infrastructure Co. to build The Milwaukee Streetcar’s Phase 1 line, Lakefront Extension and Operations and Maintenance Facility. Under its contract, Kiewit will be responsible for all construction activities, including installation of the rail, the overhead contact system and streetcar stops. Kiewit was one of seven firms from around the country that submitted proposals to build the system. Read more.
July 6, 2016 – The City of Milwaukee Common Council today voted to approve a local funding package for the streetcar’s proposed Fourth Street Extension. The $20 million, funded through two existing and one new Tax Incremental Districts, will act as a local match for a pending $20 million federal TIGER grant request with awards expected to be announced this fall.
June 2016 -- The City of Milwaukee remains committed to expanding the starter streetcar route into adjacent neighborhoods and is pursuing a federal TIGER grant and local match for an initial extension on Fourth Street.
April 18, 2016 -- The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to procure a Construction Manager – General Contractor to provide preconstruction and construction services for the Milwaukee Streetcar Project Phase 1 and the Lakefront Line extension. March 2016 -- Streetcar-related bid opportunities are expected to be announced next month. As this is a City of Milwaukee construction project, you can access up-to-date construction opportunities on the City's Department of Public Works (DPW) website. The DPW Home Page is found here. On the home page, go to the "Quick Links" section (lower right) and select "Official Bid Notices." Streetcar-related bid opportunities will be listed once they are published. The exact RFP publication date for mainline track and the Operations and Maintenance Facility construction has not been finalized. You may also want to sign up for the City's e-notify service to receive notices of bid opportunities.
